When you buy a STIHL tool, you know that you’re investing in one of the most precisely engineered, high performance power tools available. So you need to know how to make sure your tool performs to its potential – and one way of doing this is knowing the best fuel to use for it!
MotoMix is STIHL’s patented fuel formula that has been created especially for STIHL 2-stroke engine power tools. It’s the perfect partner for your chainsaw or hedge trimmer. But what makes MotoMix better than any other regular fuel you would use in your engine? Here’s 6 reasons why…
- Easy to use
STIHL MotoMix is a hassle-free formula made up of a combination of specially created fuel premixed with HP Ultra oil. This means you don’t have to worry about measuring the two fluids before mixing them together as it’s already been done for you in exactly the right proportions! MotoMix is clean, convenient and ready to pour into your tools, so you can start working in no time at all.
- Higher performance
MotoMix has been ‘mixed’ with a 50:1 ratio of premium quality fuel and STIHL’s HP Ultra oil. It’s been designed with STIHL 2-stroke engines in mind so it can give you the great performance you’ve come to expect at all times.
- Better protection
MotoMix uses HP Ultra oil which is STIHL’s highest quality 2-stroke oil – meaning it can take on tough jobs with ease. It also gives your engine a much longer service life. This oil helps to keep the engine clean as well. An engine that has used STIHL MotoMix will still look like new even after 500 hours of use!
The image on the left shows a piston from a domestic grass trimmer after 50 hours use with HP Ultra oil (which is used in MotoMix), whilst the image on the right shows a piston in the same model after 50 hours use with standard HP oil.
- Environmentally conscious
Another advantage of MotoMix is that it’s a much cleaner choice than regular fuel. Emission-wise, it’s free from ethanol and has virtually no olefins and aromatic compounds. So when you compare it normal fuel, it’s a much more environmentally friendly option.
- Longer lasting
Did you know that STIHL MotoMix fuel can stand the test of time? You’ll need to keep it in a dry and dark place at an average temperature of 20°C, but when you do that it can last for up to five years! Meaning you won’t have to buy a new batch of fuel if you aren’t using your STIHL tools every day, which makes MotoMix a great economical choice.
- Patented formula
When it comes to 2-stroke engines, we know how to make the ideal fuel that best suits STIHL machines. If you are using MotoMix, the way the tool starts, accelerates and runs matches the way STIHL intended the machine to be used. And because of STIHL’s patent, MotoMix can’t be copied, so MotoMix is alwaysthe best option for your machine.
And there you have it – 6 reasons why MotoMix is the perfect fuel for STIHL machines! Choosing MotoMix will always give you the best protection and power. Above all, it’s always worth remembering that STIHL tools are an investment – so why not invest in the best quality fuel for them too?
Hello,
Can you buy Motomix from somewhere that is not a Stihl dealership?
Thank you.
Hi Thomas, we only distribute MotoMix to approved STIHL dealers, although some of them work with sub-dealers so you may find it in other places. You can find your nearest STIHL dealer here: https://stihlapproveddealer.co.uk/. This doesn’t have details of sub-dealers on though I’m afraid. Thanks very much, STIHL GB
I would be interested in this long life fuel. Pardon the pun. I believe there is definite mileage in the product. I have seen first hand the damage ethanol has on engines when left unused. Be great if you also produced the product as neat fuel to support those items I use that are 4 stroke.
Hi, thanks for your comment and your feedback. We also make Moto4Plus for 4-stroke machines. You can find out more here: https://www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Products/Fuel-oils-and-canisters/Moto4Plus/294096-113889/Moto4Plus.aspx
Thanks, STIHL GB
Where I’m unable to leave the standard fuel in my hedge trimmer over several months is it OK to leave the moto mix in the unit or should this also be drained before storage?
Hi Martin, thanks for your comment. As best practice we would still generally store our machines dry, due to not knowing what contaminates might already be in the fuel tank. But it does depend on how long you would be storing it for. If it’s only for a few months, it would be acceptable to store the machine with fuel in. I hope that helps, thanks very much, STIHL GB
if the HP ultra leave a piston so clean after 50 hours of work, why make/sell a standard HP oil that burns not so clean. I see ultra is recommended for 4mix
Hi, thanks for getting in touch. We offer a range of oil products to suit all budgets. The cleaner burning of HP Ultra is recommended due to the more intricate working parts such as the valves in the 4-MIX engines. Thanks, STIHL GB
I’m struggling to change my machines over to motomix. My Stihl dealer told me to run my machines until empty before putting motomix in and everything should be fine, but so far neither my combi or my hedge cutter are even starting. So I’m loathed to try it in my chainsaw or strimmer!
What am I doing wrong?
Hi James, thank you for your question.
We would suggest visiting your local STIHL Approved Dealer, their technical team will be able to inspect your machine and diagnose the issue. You can find your local STIHL Approved Dealer here: https://shop.stihl.co.uk/pages/dealer-locator Thanks, STIHL GB.
Hi, after reading the comments above, if I am not using a hedge cutter or chainsaw for say six months I am better leaving the tanks dry? Also is it okay to swap between motomix and hp ultra mixed myself or should I stick with one or the other? I use unleaded premium in my mix . Uk based
Hi Matthew, thank you for your question. Yes, if you are not using your tool for 6 months, we advise draining the tank dry.
Yes, you can swap between Motomix and HP Ultra, however, if you use petroleum for a long time there can be a build-up of gums and varnishes in the fine galley ways of the carburettor. If you were then to change to MotoMix, this refined and high quality fuel would clean the gums and varnishes, but this could lead to a build up in bottleneck areas such as the gauze filters. In the long term causing the need for the carburettor to be taken apart and cleaned. However, if you switch between them weekly/monthly, there is less potential for an issue.
Thanks, STIHL GB.
